“ACROSS THE WORLD TO FIND OUR NEW HOME”
Both successful entrepreneurs living in Hong Kong in 2020, Waiho and Aster were considering a move to the UK, where Waiho had spent time studying for his pharmacy degree.
While COVID inevitably delayed their plans, they studied property portals and researched different locations to best suit their desired lifestyle and requirements.
With a pack of much-beloved huskies, the couple needed a garden, as well as somewhere close to open spaces – and the highly desirable county of Surrey looked perfect. Equally important was good transport links, to both airports and into London – which whittled down the location further. Finally, with both Waiho and Aster now enjoying the work-from-home lifestyle, ample space for a home office was also a must.
Their extensive house hunting landed them at Broadoaks Park, luxury developer Octagon’s award-winning parkland estate in well-connected West Byfleet. Comprising 126 homes – a mix of new build and Grade II Listed properties – the vast swathes of open space was a draw in itself, but the houses seemed perfect, too.
Waiho explains; “I just knew from the start that Octagon were the right housebuilders for us. Their homes had the architectural design and interior space we were looking for.“
Aster originally preferred the idea of an older house to renovate and Waiho was keen for a new build.
Aster comments; “Once I had done some research and seen the development online, I had to agree, Octagon seemed to offer the best of both worlds – so it wasn’t a difficult decision in the end. Whilst we were buying a new build home, Broadoaks Park has such a great history and beautiful Listed buildings within the development, it felt like the perfect compromise.”
Reserving their selected plot off-plan in Spring 2022, they moved to the UK, with their huskies, and rented a home in Hampshire whilst waiting for their new house to finish being built.
Aster says; “While our particular plot was very much a building site back in April 2022, the rest of the development was growing – we knew instantly we had made the right decision.“
“Waiho is very particular, with high standards and expectations. Once we had arrived in the UK, we saw for the first time what we were buying into – and seeing the development in real life made us both very happy!”
Moving into their Broadoaks Park home in December 2023, the couple instantly received a warm welcome from neighbours and settled into their new community quickly.
The huskies have settled in too, quickly adapting to Surrey life – enjoying Canicross (off-road running with their humans) and regular walks in the vast surrounding countryside.
Across the world to find their new home – and well worth the wait.
